Born in Paris 1975, Dan Marciano starts his career in Paris in 1995 and moves quickly towards the best Parisian clubs. He begins with House (hardhouse and tekhouse) and Trance music (goa or progressive under the name DJ Issaa).
So first of let's start with a couple of short questions. How did you get started making music, producing and what were your influences in the begining? Ok I was begining to play at La Palace, and I would play hip hop music in the begining, funky, nu jack and after I would move on to house music, so my influence now is the middle of all that, the trancie, progressive and funky music. Ok lets get back in the past for a second, you we're playing in Vodice last summer right? So how did you like it there, the place, the club, people, women...the whole scene there? Very good vibe, very good energy. I travel a lot in countries like Czech Rep., Makedonija and now Croatia and I have a good feeling, connection with the people there, and especially here in summer. Where has your music taken you recently? My music, well in all Europe, all across. I began this year with Buenos Aires, Brazil, New York, Izrael and Tunis...the whole scene actually. That's beacuse I don't play and make one kind of music, one kind of house. I mix a little bit of everything. What's your connection with Dr. Kucho, when did you hook up with him and how did that colaboration work between you? He done a remix for one of your tracks, Good Morning Paris. That's right, Dr. Kucho was a producer and I had a lot of maxis of him, and in France he never played in Paris, so I contacted him, booked him to play on my party in the Locomotive and I spoke with him and said I have a new track and we listened to it. He liked it and suggested that he should work on a remix for it. So that's how it started. (smijeh....) And what music are you making now? My new maxi wil be released soon with dj Paulette, she's singin on it. Yeah she's coming here soon... Yeah I know, she will be here next week, so that's my new maxi. I made also two remixes for it, and I continue to produce the music I like. I enjoy it... What's big at the moment on the french house scene? Like always you have the big dj's like David Guetta, Antoine Clamaran, Martin Solveig and the people like Laurent Garnier, Dimitri from Paris and all of them push the scene forward, so it continous to be a very good, interesting scene in Paris. And it's always growing, moving...and it's clear that in Paris the sound of Paul van Dyke and Tiesto has no future, it's totally different. Oh really, so what can we expect tonight, something similar to the last party here, when you were in Vodice or are you going to surprise us? Well when I go to play in the clubs I have only my bag, and directly I feel the dancefloor and I take it in that direction. Well as times are changing, there's a lot of talk about the way to perform, to play music. Should it be in vinyl or maybe on cd's and is the whole digital revolution going to change the way you perform as a dj? Well yeah, that's the example with me beacuse I always play records, but this last few years I receive a lot a lot a lot of promos on cd's, and I dont get it on vinyl, so I have to play it in cd...but it's not good for the bussines, beacuse we make music and it's not always it, so if we dont sell eventualy the whole scene will die out, not just the house scene, everything. Yeah definetly, all of us should support that, keep on buying the records. not just downloading them. That's becoming a big problem nowadays. So what about this years WMC (Winter Music Conference) in Miami, do you have any plans for going there this spring? I don't know yet, beacuse I have a lot of bookings, so I must arrange my plans but I have my agency, they represent me in Miami also. I gotta ask you this, what's your most cherished record? And what's you secret shame record? Ooh I have so many you know (smijeh...) I dont have one in my head now, hehe it's difficult to find. But the music is for everybody, we make compilations for the people. So as a dj, how did you progress from the time you got involved in music, where do you think you will go from now on? Well I'm not sure, I dont know. I continue with my job, I continue my work without thinking for the future. I live my life, every minute, every hour... Where do you see the whole house scene, a lot of people say that piano house is coming back on the big door. Is that in one way the end of house music, beacuse it's starting to recycle itself in a way, or will anything new come out of it all? What's your attitude to all of that? I think it's like hip hop, you have a lot of samples of old songs that come out in new remixes. But we create some new songs, and you know the last couple of years there was a lot of rock house, a lot of rock house on the scene. And now it's more electro, and the next year who knows, maybe the acid will come back, or maybe some hip house. A lot of that is begining to mix together. So it's good for the music, good for dj's, for us you know. So can we expect to see you play here again, maybe on the coast this summer in Hacienda with D&G? Yeah we will come back for hacienda this summer, and where we continue to make some fiestas here, i love the girls here in Croatia, very very beautifull, much more better than Paris. So we will come back (smijeh..) Nice, so this was Dan Marciano live from Gallery, thank you Dan. No problem, thank you for doing the interview. I'm gonna leave you to say a few more words... Yeah (smijeh...) goodbye everybody, you can go on my website for listening my mix every week, also check out my playlist here. Bye bye!!
