 Planes, trains, and automobiles. One way or another John Acquaviva is always on the go and off to the next club or party. Having DJ’d since the late 70’s with his first regular residency in 1980, he has appeared at close to 2000 international clubs and events since 1990 with another couple of thousand local sessions amassed over the 80’s. He has DJ’d for a cumulative audience in the millions and his air miles match and attest to that number. For a guy who’s been around for what seems like forever, Acquaviva rocked 2005 as never before with his most prolific and successful year of production ever. Starting off with Madox on the Mantra label, Bling achieved critical and club acclaim. It ended the year on many best of lists, notably in Italy. Then, there was Zombie, produced with Tobias Lutzenkirchen on Blufin, this giant was one of clubland’s biggest tracks and digital downloads for 2005. Collaborations with Toronto’s Bugeyed label, edits for club anthems like Sikk’s Washing Machine as well as the much heralded A2Z ep with Ramon Zenker of Hardfloor fame, rounded out the year. Not satisfied with his own productions, John also showcased new and emerging talent by relaunching his Definitive Recordings label. First, digitally on Beatport, then on limited and select vinyl …connect with a new breed and generation of artists from all over the world. John closed out 2005 releasing his latest mix cd called BACK2BASICS with a solid and once again critically acclaimed mix of 2005 club gems. This is but the latest in a long line of mix cds that started with Xmix and spanned the series FROM SATURDAY TO SUNDAY over the years.
One of the most experienced and versatile DJ's around, John is well known for his vast record collection of over 50,000 pieces of vinyl spanning a significant period of club music and 12" culture from the early disco days till present. He is reknowned as a dj’s dj and one of the very few DJ's who can enhance a room as well as appeal to a number of different crowds on different stages and sounds across the globe...and in demand like never before. As if that is not enough, over the 00’s, he has branched out beyond the core of dj’iong and music production to further immerse and pioneer music techonology, having been instrumental in the discovery and launch of FINALSCRATCH and Beatport.com [the worlds leading electronic music download service] 2006 is full of action already with the buzz and promise of a regular weekly residency in Ibiza with Privilege for the summer.
