Kevin SaundersonBefore the superclubs, before the festivals, before the six figure cheques and the private jets, techno began with three teenagers tinkering with machines. Kevin Saunderson and his friends Derrick May and Juan Atkins met at high school  in the early 1980s just as the world of electronic music was about to turn on its axis. With the electronica of Kraftwerk and the groove of Motown at their heels, their experiments with the rudimentary electronic music making equipment of the time were to lay the foundations for the entire dance music world. Now Saunderson’s futuristic creations are about to reconnect with dance music in 2008 via a series of remixes by some of techno’s current foremost innovators to celebrate 20 years of his music.

Kevin’s label KMS, are inviting a roll call of the scene’s biggest names to reinterpret his productions. Carl Craig, Loco Dice, Mathew Jonson, John Tejada, Luciano, Jesse Rose, Joris Voorn, Claude Vonstroke, Samuel l Sessions, Simian Mobile Disco, The Rapture and more all line up to add their indelible touches to the discography of one of dance music’s most important figures.

Saunderson and the unique unmistakable vocals of Paris Grey as Inner City introduced techno to the mainstream with the genre’s first pivotal worldwide chart hit ‘Big Fun’ quickly followed its follow up, Good Life (Inner City went on to score 12 Top 40 hits in the UK and two Top Twenty albums with combined sales of more than six million). Records like these or those released under his other famous aliases such as Reese, E Dancer, Santonio and Tronik House proved vital in the development of some of today’s techno innovators. These new innovative remixes will be released on 12” double A sides, the tracks will pave the way for a double CD release this Summer to create a project tying the past with the future, mutating the techno virus ever further and signposting the talents of a true dance music innovator they call ‘The Elevator’.
