When I asked him the perennial question journalists ask DJ’s about their style, Hector Romero replied: “I play the best of all genres of dance music.” Quite the dibs, but Hector’s got the credentials to back it up. 2006 begins with Hector Romero ’s first international mix CD release, “Pacha Winter Sessions”. 1. How would you describe your music and what inspires you to be one of the world's most popular DJ's? My music is a fusion of different style of house music - I'm actually influenced by a little of Satoshi Tomiie, David Morales and a bit of Frankie Knuckles and then I add my own personal style. 2. This year is of great importance for Def Mix. You are preparing 'the best of' compilation and you're about to tour with David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie. What can you tell us about that? The 20 Year Anniversary is such a big deal - obviously it's a big accomplishment to last that long in this industry and I'm happy to be able to celebrate it with the boys. Pacha Ibiza is the main club where we are celebrating the anniversary at, but we're also on a year long tour that allows us to enjoy it with our friends and fans at different venues all over the world. The 3 CD set will be released mid-summer via Defected Records (UK) and will be the first time ever that some (but not all) of the best remixes the guys have done will be packaged as whole. It sounds amazing and I'm quite proud to have mixed it. It was a labor of love. 3. What kind of relationship do you have with them? How did they accept you? My relationship with the boys is special - David is like a brother to me whom I look up to and Frankie is like a loveable Godfather that always makes you feel comfortable and gives good advice. Satoshi and I are the best of friends - we speak about music and other subjects all the time - we see eye to eye on many things. And I think they accepted me for my individuality. 4. Do you prefer playing in America or Europe and why? I prefer to play Europe because Europeans understand and accept house music. In America Hip Hop, R&B and Rock & Roll are still mainstream and heavily supported on radio and video programs. House music is still very underground. 5. How do you feel about playing in Croatia? I absolutely love playing Croatia - the country, food and culture are just amazing. I feel welcomed each time I play and that's why I look forward to my gigs there this summer.
