 Since 2005 Stealth Records’ acclaimed Afterdark compilation series has captured the imagination of club lovers worldwide. Created by and for those with a taste for the darker side of house, it’s all about dancefloor chemistry, as perfected by chief architect Roger Sanchez (founder of Stealth Records). Two world-class DJs, two upfront mix CDs, and one visceral voyage of discovery. With a late night theme that’s lean, mean and aurally unclean, Afterdark is all this and much more! The project kicked off in 2005, with Afterdark Volume 1. This dual CD package introduced a clash of New York’s home-grown electro-tribal titans as Roger Sanchez mixed up a storm with Superchumbo star Tom Stephan. The scene was set; it was dark and fizzed with exclusive re-edits, fluid, cutting-edge sounds and intermittent heavy hits.
It was followed, in 2006, by Afterdark Volume 2, compiled and mixed by Iberican Sound specialists Chus & Ceballos and eclec-tech German selector Sharam Jey. Garnering the series even more supporters, their interpretations were as deep and unique as their predecessors. So, with Afterdark continuing to evolve, innovate and make international waves, what’s new for 2007? Well, this year sees Stealth serve up a sizzling ace in the form of its third volume. Here the steadfast Sanchez lays down one of the most adventurous episodes to date, inviting up-and-coming Dutch dynamo Laidback Luke on-board to mix the second disc. Released on 15th October, Afterdark Volume 3 is loaded with the kind of sonic sorcery that you may expect to experience during one of their longer, more underground sets. An unofficial member of the Swedish House Mafia, young gun Luke was chosen this time around not only because he’s hot property right now, but also because it’s thought that his sound fits the series and currently complements the S-Man’s. In fact, you could say, the hip-house prodigy now really is Rocking With The Best – an anthem that’s included here in its 2007 incarnation. ‘…I guess my time has come to have a great opportunity in mixing Afterdark with main man, Roger!’ comments Luke. Says Roger: ‘I chose the DJs for Afterdark based on his/their sound and the synergy comes from two different perspectives by two different artists on the same sound.’ He continues: ‘Stealth is very much about the hottest talent, both new and established producers, and Afterdark fits into that exactly.’ Already proven as a hot DJ combination, this year alone Roger and Luke have rocked Stealth’s Miami WMC event, Roger’s Release Yourself party at Pacha, Ibiza, Mystery Land in the Netherlands and Global Gathering in the UK. Indeed, with these two party starters and a whole host of exciting, exclusive tracks from next generation artists at the top of their game, if it got any hotter there would be a meltdown.
