OK so Tony Humphries is house music legend, period. The Brooklyn based DJ has been behind the wheels of steel since 1975 and along the way his productions have touched the music of artists like Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Jungle Brothers, Indeep and Queen Latifah. In 1993 he took up residency at London's infamous Ministry of Sound and also compiled their very first 'Sessions' compilation. So it's no surprise that MN2S have enlisted the mighty New Yorker to mix the latest in their Masterclass series.
What you get is a double CD featuring tracks from stable faves such as Ann Nesby, Todd Terry Dj Pope, Kerri Chandler, Groove Junkies, Sunburst band and Incognito. Humphries knows how to please the soulful lovers with vocals a-plenty alongside trackier outings including the excellent opening track 'Shimmering Stars' from Jakatta and Kerri Chandler's 'So Let the Wind Come'.
Humphries delivers a great compilation. CD1 'In The Club' is my personal favourite, CD2 is named 'The Afterparty'. And whilst technically it may not be as slickly produced as many compilations you'll find on the shelves it more than makes up for it with a track selection that speaks for itself. |
